McLaren 720S Resale Value: What Sellers Should Know
The 720S is one of the fastest-selling modern exotics we buy. Here is what determines where yours lands.
The 720S occupies a useful position in the used exotic market. It is quick enough to satisfy anyone, usable enough to drive regularly, and produced in numbers that mean there is a real, liquid market for it — which is good news when you are selling, because liquidity is what turns an asking price into money.
What separates a strong 720S from an average one
- Performance or Luxury trim, and the carbon packs. Exterior and interior carbon fibre packages were costly new and they still register. A car with meaningful carbon content presents as the more expensive proposition it was.
- Colour. The signature McLaren shades hold attention. Unusual MSO paint can add real money if it is a colour people want, and can narrow the audience if it is not.
- Spider or coupé. Both sell. The Spider tends to draw a slightly wider audience and shows more seasonality in when that audience appears.
- Wheels, seats and the nose lift. Lightweight wheels, carbon shells and vehicle lift all get noted. Lift especially — it changes what the car can be used for.
The service and condition items buyers check first
McLarens reward documented care and punish gaps, in the same way as any low-volume car with specialised parts and a limited service network.
- Annual services on schedule. A continuous record within the network is what a buyer wants to see. Gaps invite discounting because they invite uncertainty.
- Known model-specific attention points. Any car of this era has items that shops know to inspect. Whether they have been addressed, and with what parts, is a normal part of the conversation and nothing to be defensive about.
- Carbon tub and panel condition. The monocoque is a strength, but underbody and panel-edge condition is inspected because kerb damage on composite is not a body-shop afternoon.
- Paint protection film. Well-fitted PPF applied early is a genuine plus. Old, yellowing or lifting film is a minus, because removal is work.
How the range affects your car
The 720S does not sell in isolation. Where it lands depends partly on what else is available: 570S and 600LT below it, 765LT above, Artura alongside in showrooms. When limited-run cars are plentiful, standard-production cars work harder for attention. That relationship shifts, which is one reason a valuation from six months ago is not a valuation.
What to have ready before you ask for an offer
- The VIN, which resolves the full factory build without you listing options from memory.
- Service invoices or the portal history, including the most recent annual.
- Photos: front and rear three-quarter, both flanks, wheels, interior, and honest shots of anything you would want disclosed.
- Any PPF, wrap or modification detail, plus whether original parts are included.
